IDDS!

After two days of travel, our first day of IDDS has finally begun! The day was absolutely incredible, as we were immediately assigned a task, which was to launch a “seed” from the fourth floor of our hostel to a target location on the ground floor. We were given 15 options of materials (chipboard, plant fronds, rubber bands, water bottles, water sachets, sticks, and nails, just to name a few) to use, from which we could only take 5 items. With this challenge, we got to work.

What I didn’t expect, however, was how much fun it would be as we launched our seeds. It was as if we had synchronous “oohs” and “aaaahs”. My team ultimately failed, as we designed our launcher on the third floor, and soon discovered that our design was too tall for the fourth floor. So, we scrambled to come up with an alternative plan, which involved launching paper airplanes. It didn’t work so well…

Anyways, these past few days have been fantastic, from the welcoming IDDS staff in Accra, our 6-hour bus-ride to Kumasi, and then our huge welcome at our hostel. More to come later!
